food!

Inez is officially a big girl. she is sitting up like a pro- though she does still tip over on occasion. We forgive her. She gets a great big smile when she is either standing (with help) or sitting. She's not crawling, and I don't think she will be too soon. She does scoot forward by shoving her head into the ground and then lifting her butt. It's very elegant.

Inez also loves her tongue still. It's often out to play. She giggles a lot now. She especially finds it funny when i wash her hands with a wet washcloth. I always get giggles for that. Mom is so funny! I love being so appreciated.

We decided to try some food a week or so ago and see if she was ready. She's almost ready, but not quite. She enjoys trying things. So far she has tasted banana, sweet potato and avocado. On most occasions little to nothing gets into her tummy. But she really seems to enjoy playing with the food. It's also nice to know she takes after me, her mom. I still enjoy playing with my food. (don't let this get back to my three year olds who often get asked to stop playing and eat).

We are going slow on the food and waiting until she's really ready.

Last week we visited her great grandparents Reid in Windom. She was all eyes for grandma! It was our first night away from home since she was born and she did great.

Right now Inez is sleeping in her stroller while I type. It's only 7:30, but she must be tired from waking me up 4 times a night. We're all hoping it's a phase, maybe like the one in which she slept 8 hours a night.

Lots of fun, lots of pics

The last two weeks have been big for all of us. Inez has been smiley as ever, and after a brief flirtation with saying, "Dada" and "Mama", has taken up sticking her tongue way out!

Johny Jump-up is Inez's favorite new toy. We have a future high jumper in the family!

Inez and us miss our roommate Chris. He has flown to Peru for 10 weeks of teaching science at an American school.

Turkey, my Chinese partner in Chengdu, which is the capital of the Sichuan, survived the quake. The epicenter was a few hundred miles outside of the capital. Unfortunately, many others lives have been devestated. I encourage all of you to consider contributing to Aid organizations to help with the recovery.

Bring Your Kid to Work Day

Inez got to spend an afternoon learning about what dad does all day. It was take your kid to work day and the Seward Co-op had lots of fun activities for kids to do- scanning groceries, bagging, stocking shelves, etc. It was adorable. Inez stole the show (for mom at least) with an adorable name tag and hair net (she does have a lot of hair that just keeps growing!).

Inez is so active now, she's a lot of fun. She's now waking up at 6:30 everyday, which is less than ideal. So mom and dad take turns sleeping in. This morning, she was between us and chatting away while mom tried to keep her eyes open. Dad was happily sleeping. Well, Inez was happy to see me, but she REALLY wanted to see Nick. So she keep twisting her head and neck to check him out. She's look back at me, then twist to see him. It was like she was saying "ok, dad, ready to play?" She just loves him!

We also got some real laughs out of her! They didn't sound like a hairball was stuck in her throat!

Inez's Stats

Today was Inez's 4 month check-up. She had a great time! Last time we had shots she screamed bloody murder and it was awful. So I made Nick come along this time. Well, the oral vaccine that had her gurgling while screaming last time was evidently quite tasty this time around. Each squirt prompted a smile and cuteness. The shots did make her mad, but she got over it pretty quick. She and Nick went on the have a delightful day (it helps that it's sunny!).

Here's her stats: 14 lbs 14 oz! 24 1/2 inches! She is between the 50-75 percentiles on head circumference, weight, and height. Perfectly proportional. She charmed the nurses and doctor and impressed her parents with her composure.

On another note, we got a nice kelty outdoor backpack from Nick's cousin this weekend. She loves it and spent a nice amount of time sitting in it while dad raked the leaves today. This morning Inez woke up early and laid in her crib making the "d" sound. She's really into talking.

Cutest Baby In The World Contest Results

We tallied the votes, and it appears that Inez has indeed won the cutest baby in the world title. Congrats to Inez and her parents/managers!

Inez has recently gone through two, yes two, growth spurts and is practically walking. Well, not that advanced yet, but after keeping mom and dad up all night so she could eat constantly, she is moving a lot! She sees something she wants and will twist and grab it with great precision. She loves standing, sitting, and generally being a big girl. She also laughs a ridiculous laugh. It sounds like she has a hairball. It's adorable and we are happy that she tries. Go get'em tiger!

Today Inez got some fabulous new toys- stuffed vegetables! The lettuce crinkles and she can't keep it out of her mouth. We like to start good habits early. She also has discovered her feet. She has shoes with lions on them and she stares and stares and wiggles her feet.

Everyone always asks if Inez is a good sleeper. She is! She has decided that she much prefers mom to a bottle, so she gets by on less food at daycare and eats a couple times a night. No problem though- she just goes right back to sleep after eating with speed. At daycare she has been taking 3 hour naps! At home she takes 20 minutes naps...

All in all, Inez and parents are great. Tired, overworked, but wonderfully happy.

I'll put up with only so much

Another Daddy-Daughter day, this time with Grandma and Grandpa Seeberger, filled with fun! Inez has not been the most sleep friendly baby as of late, deciding it is much cooler to hang out with Dad and Mom than take a boring old nap. Problem is she can get a little sensitive emotionally, as we all can, when sleep deprived. Her swing in moods was no match for the fun day however as we went to the Conservatory, ate falafal, and got chores done. We even saw the Corpse flower about ready to bloom (unfortunately I didn't get any pictures). Enjoy!
